Communion Thoughts

A few weeks ago I had really bad toothache. It took a couple of days to get it sorted out and until it was that was the most important thing in my life. Our bodies are real. There's no denying that. But they're not really real, not eternally real. They don't last forever.

There are many other things that are real but not 'really real'. In 2 Corinthians it says "what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.". Jesus said "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away". So we have two things that are eternal: Jesus' words and the unseen.

Another thing that is eternal is love. In 1 Corinthians it says "prophecies will cease and knowledge will pass away but love never fails".

So now we have Jesus' words, the unseen and love. These are all eternal. I'm not claiming to be an expert on this but I think all three come together in communion. We obey His instruction to "do this in remembrance of me". We can fix our eyes on the unseen and we can remember God's love for us in that "he sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins". and  "not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world".
